Research Citation and its worth
Are
you writing some article / book / #research_paper, etc., and copying certain contents
of another author in your work then don’t forget to acknowledge the work of
your predecessor in your work. Acknowledging someone else works by including
personal detail about the source in the body of a paper as well as listing the
details of the source at the end of the paper by a means of Reference/work
cited/bibliography is known as a citation. The reason for the citation is the
concept of Intellectual property, a property that worth to protect someone’s
idea is very important.
Thus,
a citation is a technique of informing your readers that
some of the information in your work came from a different source. Here source
may be, Book, Book Section, Journal Article, Article in a Periodical, Conference
Proceedings, Report, Website, Document from web site, Electronic Source, Art, Sound
Recording, Performance, Film, Interview, Patent, Case, E-Mail, etc. Citations should
supply detail to identify the source uniquely by specifying the following,
- Biographical information on the
author
- Work/Paper Title
- the name and location of the
journal/books/conference etc. that published source
- the publication date of work/paper
- the page numbers, etc.
#Purpose_of_Citation
- The author's effort, as well as the detailed research work carried out by the scholar(s), is reflected in the citation.
- To acknowledge or to
give a credit to the original author(s) and hence avoid committing intellectual
property theft.
- To assist your reader
in learning more about your topic, arguments, thoughts, or issue by knowing
your sources.
- To make your work more
reliable and to reflect quality work by quoting someone in your field of a subject
or related to the title.
- To identify the
relationship between the cited work and your own content.
- To keep you from
failing a paper, a course, or being sued in the real world due to plagiarism or
copyright.
Many
disciplines have their own citation styles with the version. Though earlier
there were very few styles but now, every day some new citation style is coming
out for each subject too. The following are some of the popular styles and
disciplines where this style is used is mentioned.

#Citation_Tool
Many
citation tools exist to assist you in accessing information from across the web
that will help you get fully-formatted bibliography/references that clearly displays all
of the sources that have contributed to your work, such as websites, books,
journals, and so on. Some of the best citation tools are 1. BibMe
2. Citation Machine 3. Citavi 4. Citefast 5. Citelighter 6. Docear
7. OttoBib.
I will suggest going for a citation generator (https://www.citethisforme.com/us/citation-generator)
#Indirect_Citation
When
the ideas of one author are written in another author's text but you haven't
read or accessed the original author's work, this is known as an indirect
citation or secondary source. For example, you are reading a book titled say
“Research Publication and Ethics” by Dr. S. B. Kishor published in 2021 that
includes a description of a study carried out by author Dr. Ajay Kushwaha. But
you don’t have any proper source regarding the work carried by Dr. Ajay
Kushwaha. As a result, your citation to Dr. Kushwaha is a secondary citation.
In your work (in article/book/research paper) you would say something like
“According to work by Dr. Kushwaha (as cited in Dr. Kishor, 2021)
Conclusion
Whenever
a non-original content is written to support your writing, a citation should be
included. In a nutshell, citation shows the source where your thoughts or ideas
came from. It displays the relevant source and gives credit to predecessors for
their contributions to the author's present project/work. So, if you're writing
an article or a paper, remember to cite when you're duplicating someone else's
work to avoid intellectual property theft and that provide a proper worth to
your work.
