Demonstrating how to Avoid Plagiarism by Citing Properly for Internet Source (IEEE Style) - Dr. S. B. Kishor



Plagiarism means copying published data/information written in any language and republishing it in your own language without giving an adequate acknowledge to an original author.

In the following section, we will see how to cite, when copying and pasting the text from Internet.

 1)     Copy + Paste from Internet (Short Text)

 The Internet has turned our existence upside down. It has revolutionized communications, to the extent that it is now our preferred medium of everyday communication [1].

 2)   Copy + Paste Large Text from Internet (Do not copy entire text) and specify ... (i.e. Ellipsis at the end), Assume paragraph 2 from the website has been copied and pasted

 “The Internet itself has been transformed. In its early days—which from a historical perspective are still relatively recent—it was a static network designed to shuttle a small freight of bytes or a short message between two terminals; it was a repository of information where content was published and maintained only by expert coders. Today, however, immense quantities of information are uploaded and downloaded over this electronic leviathan, and …” [1, para. 2].

 3)     Copy + Paste from Internet but Paraphrased

[ Original]

The emergence of web 2.0 in the first decade of the twenty-first century was itself a revolution in the short history of the Internet, fostering the rise of social media and other interactive, crowd-based communication tools.

[ Paraphrased]

The website [1] highlights the rise of web 2.0 in the early 2000s was a big deal for the Internet. It led to the growth of social media and other interactive ways for people to communicate online.
