Generate Literature Maps

It ensures researchers build upon existing
work, avoid duplication, and contribute meaningfully to their field. There are many tools that are useful to organize literature review including google scholar.
Google Scholar is helpful, but it doesn't show how
papers relate to each other. That's where Litmaps (Literature Maps) comes in. It speeds up
your literature review by letting you visually search for connections between
papers (i.e. it helps you find related papers to your topic and also displays the number of citations for each paper and the year). Plus, it lets you easily export your papers to Zotero or other
referencing manager tool.
1. Access Litmaps Website and Log In : Go to litmaps.com
and sign in to your account.
2. View features Overview: Litmaps may display new features it added, read if wish otherwise simply click on Continue.
3. Create Your First Litmap: Click on Create
your first Litmap located on the left side. A search bar will appear, allowing you to search for
papers using keywords, titles, author names, and more. Specify details that you
are looking in search bar.
4. Select Papers and Generate Litmap: Review the list of
related papers and their abstracts. Choose the papers that are relevant to your
research and click on Create Litmap Litmaps will then generate a
visual map based on the selected papers.
Tip for Finding More Papers: Click on Explore related articles to discover additional papers related to your topic. Litmaps will automatically incorporate these new articles into your map.
5. Understanding Litmap Orientation: Litmaps arranges
papers based on citations along the Y-axis, with highly cited papers at the
top. Papers are ordered chronologically along the X-axis, with recent papers on
the right.
Tip for Paper Information: For each paper,
Litmaps provides the number of references and citations it has garnered.
6. Exploring Similar Papers: If you're intrigued by a
particular paper, Litmaps offers an option to find more papers similar to it. Click
on "More like this" below the paper, and Litmaps will integrate
additional related papers into your map.
Tip for Discovering Related Papers: Click on a specific
paper in the graph. A popup box will appear. Select Overview, and
Litmaps will generate a map of papers related to the one you've chosen.
7. Organizing Papers with Tags: Navigate to the
tag button located in the taskbar on your left. Give your tag a title. To tag
papers, select any paper on your map and utilize the tag option. Tag the papers
you intend to read or cite.
9. Importing to Zotero: For Zotero users, open
your Zotero desktop app and click on File. Select Import and click
"Next." Navigate to the BibTeX file you just downloaded and add it.
Zotero will import all the papers and organize them into a new collection.
